How are aero-engine blades and automotive steering knuckles manufactured? The answer lies in industrial mother machines that work like giant forging hammers — servo direct-drive CNC electric screw presses with broad process adaptability, outstanding forming capacity, eco-friendly performance and high efficiency. On July 24, Wuhan Newwish Technology Co., Ltd. settled its headquarters and the 10,000-ton servo direct-drive CNC electric screw press project in Optics Valley, with production slated to start next August.
In June, the company unveiled its new product: the world’s first and largest 10,000-ton servo direct-drive CNC electric screw press with a maximum impact force of 20,000 tons. Yu Jun, Chief Technology Officer, commented, “This machine is a core industrial mother machine for high-end precision die forging. Targeting national key equipment sectors such as aero-engines and nuclear power facilities, it can meet the precision forming demands of high-performance, high-precision, large-scale complex forgings including aero-engine fan blades, gas turbine blades and large die-forged structural parts.”
Zhang Huicen, person in charge of the Marketing Department, introduced that traditional forging equipment features low transmission efficiency, high maintenance costs and poor control precision."Our domestically pioneering self-developed servo direct-drive technology adopts an extremely simplified transmission system. It achieves zero transmission loss, greatly improves control accuracy, and delivers better energy saving, maintenance-free operation and higher efficiency."
Integrated forging of complex structural parts has become a major trend in the automotive industry. In the past, such components usually required separate forging processes followed by welding, which involved numerous working steps and low production efficiency. Moreover, welding joints tended to be weak points that undermined overall product performance. Nowadays, large servo direct-drive equipment enables one-step forging forming with lower costs and superior product performance.
"Hubei Sanhuan Forging, a leading domestic manufacturer of commercial vehicle steering knuckles, has maintained long-term cooperation with our company and deployed our servo direct-drive electric screw presses in multiple production projects," said Zhang Huicen.
In the aerospace sector, large aero-engine blades are thin and structurally complex. Workpieces produced by traditional forging methods require roughly 30 hours of follow-up polishing.“Our equipment and custom forging process reduce subsequent machining time to only a few hours. Wuxi Hangya Technology, a top manufacturer of compressor blades, also adopts our equipment,” said Zhang Huicen.
For a long time, ultra-large tonnage high-end forging equipment of this type had to rely on imports, which came with high procurement costs, long delivery cycles and reliance on foreign suppliers for core technologies. Today, all core components of the company’s 10,000-ton servo direct-drive CNC electric screw press are fully domestically produced."Under the same tonnage and main configuration standards, the overall procurement cost of our equipment is far lower than that of foreign counterparts," Zhang Huicen revealed.
